As of 26th February 2022, people are no longer required to wear a face mask in public, according to an announcement made by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority. The use of face masks when outdoors has been made optional. However, people are still required to wear a face mask in closed, indoor areas – this includes schools as well as shopping malls.
Every emirate is free to amend the rules as they see fit. The Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee has removed the quarantine requirement if one comes into close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.Those who do so only need to take a PCR test every day for five consecutive days. In Dubai, neither quarantine nor PCR testing is required in such a case.
Abu Dhabi also allowed 90% capacity at events and tourist attractions, although physical distancing is still required. Those who wish to enter public spaces and Government buildings must have a green status on the Al Hosn app. Those in quarantine need not wear a wristband any longer, and Abu Dhabi has dropped the requirement to show a negative PCR test result when entering from Dubai.
Those who are fully vaccinated need not undergo any PCR testing when entering the United Arab Emirates. These changes mark the most easing of restrictions since2020, when the coronavirus spread like wildfire across the globe and effectively put an end to air travel. Top tourist destinations for UAE residents include Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Switzerland, Singapore, Canada, and the Maldives.
